Earlier this week, I had the honor of attending a Destination Hotels sales and marketing conference at Terranea Resort, one of the 45 hotels and resorts Destination manages across the US.

The property is celebrating its 5th anniversary, and what a difference five years can make. The resort opened in the middle of the Great Recession, and it’s to the credit of property’s President, Terri Haack, her team on site and the Destination team that this luxury resort is thriving in southern California today.

I was thrilled to have been among a group of Destination team members from all over the country asked to be on a task force to help with preparing for the launch five years ago. Those were pretty harrowing days. The rooms weren’t ready for guests yet, and we were all commuting to and from downtown Palos Verdes to the tip of the peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean every day, waking up before dawn to get to the construction site, picking up at In-N-Out Burger (a lot), and pulling all-nighters every night to hit opening day. Boy, was it worth it, though. Being a part of that team is one of my fondest memories and proudest career moments.

But back to the conference – being in the room to hear the properties’ 2014 success stories, what’s keeping them up at night, and what they’re doing to make 2015 a breakthrough year was beyond inspiring. Destination Hotels HAS IT TOGETHER in sales, marketing and PR. I’m pumped for what 2015 will bring the collection, and I’m excited to be a part of making that success happen for them in the year ahead.

PS – Do yourself a favor the next time you’re in LA. terranearesort.com. Below is just the tiniest taste of what’s in store. Want to see more ocean views, poolside cocktails, whale watching, and good times? Have a look at all the cool shots the team got during the conference. #socialsuperstars
